Child Abuse

Child Abuse in the U.S.

Child Abuse in the U.S.There are nearly three million child abuse cases reported each year but experts believe the actual number is closer to nine million, as most go unreported. According to a recent congressional hearing in Washington, experts testified they believe nearly 10 children die each day in the U.S. from abuse. In the last report to the national database (NCNDS), 3 states did not report child fatalities as a result of abuse at all.

You occasionally catch a heartbreaking story on the news, but for that one case you may hear about, there are hundreds more. So many abused children suffer silently in America with no hope. There are an estimated 39 million adult survivors of sexual abuse. Child abuse costs this nation approximately 100 billion dollars annually. That cost does NOT reflect the pain, suffering, or reduced quality of life which may be the largest cost component of child abuse. That quiet child in class or that seemingly troubled child on your street might actually be victims. Imagine feeling unprotected, unloved and unsafe.
